Results Matter
As Attorney General:

The hallmark of Attorney General Bob McDonnell's public service is results-driven leadership. Attorney General McDonnell made 7 major promises during his campaign for Attorney General:

- Protect children from sexual predators
- Reignite the war on drugs in Virginia
- Defend Virginians against 21st century crimes like identity theft
- Combat gang violence
- Strengthen Virginians' property rights
- Curb frivolous prisoner lawsuits, and
- Protect Virginians from terrorist threats.

He kept his promises.

During the first General Assembly session of his term, McDonnell formulated a legislative package that encompassed all of these promises. Twenty out of twenty-one bills of Attorney General McDonnell's legislative package passed the General Assembly are were passed into law.

Because of Attorney General McDonnell, Virginians are safer.

McDonnell's legislative package:

- Protects Children from Sexual Predators. HB 846 and SB 470, patroned by Delegate Dave Albo and Senator Tommy Norment, established a 25-mandatory minimum sentence for sexual predators who commit crimes against children.
- Reignites the War on Drugs in Virginia. HB 1347 and SB 453, patroned by Delegate Rob Bell and Senator Ken Stolle, created a new "mini-kingpin" statute that imposes a 5- year mandatory minimum sentence and a fine of up to $1 million on mid-level drug dealers
- Defends Virginians against Identity Theft. HB 1141 and SB 460, patroned by Delegate Ben Cline and Senator Jeannemarie Devolites, increases the number of identity theft crimes that are prosecutable as a felony.
- Combats Gang Violence. HB 775 and SB 473, patroned by Delegate Dave Albo and Senator Tommy Norment, adds to the list of crimes that make someone eligible for prosecution under Virginia's gang participation laws, giving Virginia's law enforcement more tools with which to crack down on street gangs.
- Curbs Prisoner Lawsuits. HB 888, patroned by Delegate Terry Kilgore curbs frivolous prisoner lawsuits by giving judges discretion on issuing subpoenas and permits the dismissal of certain inmate lawsuits without the need for hearings.
- Protects Virginians from Terrorist Threats. HB 1004 and SB 363, patroned by Delegate Beverly Sherwood and Senator William Wampler codify the mission and outline the preparedness and security duties of the Office of Commonwealth Preparedness and the Secure Commonwealth Panel, making permanent this office in the Commonwealth.


As Delegate:

In the General Assembly, Bob was known as a leader on criminal justice and victims' rights issues, as well as welfare, taxation and family policy. He was Chief Patron of Governor Allen's Juvenile Justice Reform Initiative, Chief Patron of Virginia's historic Welfare Reform legislation, Chief Co-Patron of legislation in the 2003 General Assembly to abolish the death tax in Virginia, Chief Patron of legislation to create a transportation trust fund, and Chief Patron of legislation to rewrite Virginia's Public Private Partnership Act. He also authored legislation and secured funding for the creation of Virginia's first Judicial Performance Evaluation Program to assist the General Assembly in reappointing judges.

As a Delegate, Bob served on many major policy reform commissions, including the 2005 Crime Commission Taskforce on Sexually Violent Predators (Chair), Governor Allen's Commission to Abolish Parole, the Attorney General's Task Force on Youth and Gang Violence, and the Governor's Commission on Environmental Stewardship.
