The Winchester Star and Harrisonburg Daily News-Record Endorse Bob McDonnell for Governor
RICHMOND- The Winchester Star and Harrisonburg Daily News-Record today endorsed Bob McDonnell in the 2009 campaign for governor. In endorsing McDonnell the papers wrote:
“So why endorse Bob McDonnell? His capacity for leadership commend him, as does the cut of his campaign jib. He has remained focused and positive in a race that will set no new standards for civility.
The man himself offered three other reasons. To wit:
- “Best experience for tough times” - We agree. He offers a distinguished resumè - administrator, lawmaker, attorney, businessman, Army officer - and has displayed leadership in all these roles.
- “A long track record of bringing people together to get results - A case in point: As attorney general, he put together a task force to rid state government of outdated regulation. This could have turned into, as one state newspaper noted, “a partisan hack job.” But Mr. McDonnell summoned folks from both parties, as well as from business and industry, to accomplish a task long overdue. We see similar scenarios transpiring should he become governor.
- “A bolder, more innovative vision” - The Republican nominee has studiously cobbled together plans and solutions for Virginia. For this effort, he has earned myriad endorsements - from job-creators to law enforcement, from the National Federation of Independent Businesses to the Fraternal Order of Police.
We believe Bob McDonnell’s public record - and basic political philosophy - deserves Virginia’s vote Nov. 3.”
