Statement of Phil Cox Regarding Democratic Strategist Insulting Northern Virginians
RICHMOND- Virginia Democratic strategist Mudcat Saunders insulted residents of Northern Virginia today on a call organized by the Democratic Party of Virginia for the purposes of advancing Creigh Deeds’ gubernatorial campaign. On the conference call, but apparently unaware that members of the media were on the line, Saunders stated,” “From what I’ve seen up in Northern Virginia, they don’t give a damn if people talk s*** about us”

In response Phil Cox, campaign manager for Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell, released the following statement:
“To hear a Democratic strategist, on a call in support of Creigh Deeds’, say that voters in Northern Virginia don’t care about residents in the rest of the state is truly disappointing.
Unfortunately, however, it is in keeping with the divisive and negative campaign being run by Creigh Deeds. We will not move forward by dividing Virginians along regional lines. Bob McDonnell often speaks of the great opportunities he has had to live in many areas of Virginia. He was raised in Fairfax County, raised his family in Virginia Beach, and now lives outside Richmond where he moved after being elected Attorney General. He knows that no matter where you are in the state, we are all Virginians. Mr. Saunders’ comments are without merit and offensive. Creigh Deeds should publicly repudiate these indefensible and divisive comments made in support of his candidacy.”
