New Rasmussen Poll

Rasmussen today released their third poll on the Virginia Governor’s race. The poll finds Bob McDonnell opening wide leads over all three of his potential Democratic opponents. In the last Rasmussen poll, conducted in February, McDonnell was leading the three Democrats by margins of 3 to 9 points. He now leads all three by double digit margins. He leads Creigh Deeds by 15 points. Brian Moran by 10 points. And Terry McAuliffe by 12 points. This is real movement towards McDonnell and away from the Democratic candidates.

McDonnell’s favorable/unfavorable split is by far the best among the four candidates for Governor. McDonnell polls at 58% favorable, 16% unfavorable. Every Democratic candidate has higher unfavorables than favorables. That’s a major gulf in public opinion.

It is very early, and this is just one poll. There will be many between now and November.

However, this poll shows significant movement, and it comes on the heels of two notable occurrences since the last Rasmussen poll in February. The first was Bob McDonnell’s positive campaign kickoff tour in which he directly addressed the major issues facing Virginians: the need for new jobs and more opportunities in every region of the Commonwealth. The second occurrence of note has been the onslaught of negative, personal attacks by multiple liberal groups against our campaign. It is clear Bob’s positive vision and message is resonating with Virginia voters.
