McDonnell Blasts Senate Cap & Trade Bill Expected Next Week

-Reaffirms Longstanding Opposition to Cap and Trade Proposals in Washington-

RICHMOND-  In response to news reports out today that Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and John Kerry (D-MA) are set to release a new, stricter Cap and Trade bill next week, Bob McDonnell, Republican gubernatorial nominee and former Attorney General of Virginia, made the following comments:
“Cap and Trade is a job-killer. As it currently stands, the House version of this scheme has been estimated to increase energy bills by as much as $1,761 per year, destroy an average of 26,600 Virginia jobs each year, and take an average of $8.7 billion out of our state economy each year if passed into law.  To think that another bill is in the works with even stricter regulations is incomprehensible.  Virginia simply cannot afford these devastating effects, especially when so many are struggling to find jobs and ensure their family’s financial security.  Unfortunately my opponent in this race has called for the passage of a Cap and Trade scheme as a State Senator, and in this campaign. He has advocated for this job-killing scheme and that should concern every Virginian worried about their job, and worried about their electricity bills. As governor, I will always take a stand for the best interests of the Commonwealth. I will continue to stand strongly against any legislation in Washington that would increase energy costs for Virginians and negatively impact our economy.”
