RICHMOND - Bob McDonnell, Republican gubernatorial nominee and former Attorney General of Virginia, was endorsed today by the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce NOVABizPAC. The Fairfax Chamber is the voice of business in Northern Virginia and is widely regarded as Northern Virginia’s premier business organization, with its member companies representing more employees than any other chamber in Virginia. Members of the Chamber’s PAC interviewed Bob McDonnell and Creigh Deeds and attended last week’s Fairfax Chamber of Commerce Debate prior to making the endorsement.
Speaking about the endorsement, McDonnell remarked, “As a Fairfax County native, I understand the issues facing Northern Virginia. As the major economic driver of Virginia, it is essential that residents and businesses in this region are able to grow and prosper. As Governor I will ensure that Fairfax remains a great place to live and open a business. Northern Virginia has some of the toughest transportation issues and we must keep this area moving. I have proposed detailed plans to widen I-66 in and out of the Beltway, complete, within budget and on time, rail to Dulles and complete the I-495 and I-395/95 HOT Lane Project. And I have proposed detailed plans to do this without raising Northern Virginia’s taxes, unlike my opponent Creigh Deeds. We must also continue to attract new business and growth. I will work to make Virginia the best state to open and maintain a small business. I will create 100,000 more higher education degrees to keep Virginia’s students competitive and attract more high-skilled, high-paying jobs to the region. I will be the jobs governor and if elected I will work every day to ensure that we keep Northern Virginia a great place to work and live. The Fairfax Chamber of Commerce is committed to promoting business development in Northern Virginia and I am honored to receive this endorsement.”
This endorsement comes just weeks after McDonnell received the support of four organizations representing Virginia’s major job creators. McDonnell was endorsed by: Virginia Realtors ®, the largest trade association in Virginia with over 33,000 members; Virginia AgPAC, the political action committee of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation with over 147,000 members statewide; the Virginia Credit Union League, a trade association representing the Commonwealth’s 194 not-for-profit credit unions and the 3 million member-owners residing in Virginia; and, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the leading small business association in the Commonwealth whose membership consists of nearly 6,000 small businesses across the state. Last week McDonnell was endorsed by the National Rifle Association, widely recognized as America’s foremost defender of Second Amendment rights, with over 120,000 members in Virginia.
The Fairfax Chamber of Commerce has been the voice of business in Northern Virginia since 1925. Its mission is to develop, encourage and promote the economic vitality, quality of life and political interests of its members and the businesses of Northern Virginia for the benefit of the broader community.
