At Final Debate, McDonnell Stresses Commitment to Creating New Jobs and Keeping Taxes Low

Deeds Nailed by Moderator for Misrepresenting McDonnell’s Record; Tries to Conceal Plans to Raise Taxes 48 Hours After Post Endorses Him for that Very Reason; Can’t Get Away from Written Support for Cap and Trade

SALEM- In the final debate of the 2009 gubernatorial campaign, Bob McDonnell continued his positive forward-looking campaign, noting his commitment to keeping taxes low, helping Virginia’s small business owners, getting spending under control and creating jobs all across the Commonwealth.

In contrast, Creigh Deeds was once again on the defensive for failing to have a transportation plan. Even worse, only 48 hours after receiving the endorsement of The Washington Post based on his strong support for increasing taxes in the middle of a recession, Deeds returned to his unsuccessful attempts to hide his position from Virginia voters. Deeds was later roundly rebuffed by debate moderator Jay Warren for misrepresenting McDonnell’s record, eliciting laughter in the crowd.  Finally, Deeds once again tried in vain to escape his support, as a State Senator and as a candidate in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, for passage of a job-killing cap and trade scheme in Washington.

McDonnell noted the endorsements he has received from every major business organization in the state, his record of bipartisan success as Virginia’s Attorney General and his comprehensive and detailed plans to address the major challenges facing Virginians. He closed the final debate of the gubernatorial campaign staying positive with his commitment to get Virginia’s economy turned around and new jobs created all over the state.

Tomorrow McDonnell embarks on a four day, four region “New Jobs, New Virginia” tour taking him to small businesses throughout the Commonwealth.
