At Fairfax Debate McDonnell Highlights Positive Vision for Virginia

An Agitated Creigh Deeds Fails to Put out Transportation Plan; Tries to Mislead Virginia Voters on Taxes; Dodges Record; Rebuffs President

Deeds: “No, I’m not going to raise taxes - but I’m the only person on this dais who will sign a transportation plan that raises new money and I will do that”

McLEAN- At the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce debate today Virginia voters were once again presented with two entirely different visions for the Commonwealth from the two candidates for governor.

Bob McDonnell spent the hour articulating his positive vision for Virginia focused on working across party lines to keep taxes low, create jobs, fix our roads, reform public education, increase access and affordability in Virginia’s higher education system and bring new opportunities to every region of the state. He made clear his commitment to work with Congress when it proposes initiatives that will be good for Virginia, and oppose Congress when its policy proposals would have a negative impact on the state.

By contrast, a visibly agitated Creigh Deeds yet again failed to roll out a transportation plan, despite the fact he was standing in front of an audience of Northern Virginia business leaders.  Deeds also gave a stunning answer on the issue of whether or not he would raise taxes for transportation. Deeds told the audience:

“No, I’m not going to raise taxes - but I’m the only person on this dais who will sign a transportation plan that raises new money and I will do that”

Additionally Deeds spent a significant amount of time trying to escape from his advocacy for federal cap and trade legislation. Deeds also notably attempted to break from the President, refusing to label himself an “Obama Democrat.”

Immediately following the conclusion of the debate, McDonnell released his latest television ad focusing on the critical issue of transportation.  You can watch the new ad here.
