What a great Virginia story about the entrepreneurial spirit of our small businesses! After being laid off by “one of the country’s largest shoe manufacturers” in 1933, founder Donald Graeme Moore started his own small business selling shoe-making components to that same company. As the demand of the market shifted, the company changed with it and now sells high-end leather goods around the world, employing 68 people in Virginia and growing!

When it snows, this new web tool will show residents where the plowing is taking place by neighborhood and eventually this will go statewide once it is tested in Northern Virginia. The online snowplow tool is an excellent example of how Virginia is improving citizen services by leveraging technology so everyone can benefit from the information.

Since 2006, food banks have seen a 54 percent increase in demand while in the last 6 months, several food banks have experienced a 50 percent drop in food donations. I am today partnering with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks to challenge Virginia’s business community to help meet this pressing need with the ‘Governor’s Bowl’ food and fund drive.
