Governor’s inaugural fund gives $25,000 to charter school

Gov. Bob McDonnell is opening his home and inaugural committee’s checkbook for Richmond’s fledgling Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts.
The governor, a staunch supporter of public charter schools who has made enhancing the application process a marquee issue this year, plans to donate $25,000 to the school from surplus inaugural funds, in addition to hosting a reception tonight at the Executive Mansion for high-dollar supporters of the school.

RICHMOND—Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell will soon launch an aggressive initiative to reshape and shrink state government, an attempt to make good on one of his signature campaign promises and leave a lasting mark on the state.
As soon as this week, McDonnell (R) will name a team of 25 advisers that will spend months searching for ways to shave hundreds of millions of dollars from the state budget and make government more user-friendly.

Governor Bob McDonnell (R) signed Virginia’s opposition to the Democratically led federal health care reform bill Wednesday afternoon.
The governor put his signature on the Virginia Health Care Freedom Act at a ceremony in Richmond. State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, State Senators Steve Martin, Fred Quayle, Jill Vogel, Delegate Bob Marshall, and Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources Dr. Bill Hazel all took part in the event.

More Rest Stops Reopen

Governor Bob McDonnell was on hand Wednesday morning to cut the ribbon on a newly reopened rest stop in Virginia. He and other local and state dignitaries gathered at the rest stop along I-85 in Dinwiddie.
The Governor is reversing the measure put in place by former Governor Kaine. He closed 19 interstate rest stops throughout Virginia because of budget cuts. McDonnell said repeatedly during his campaign for Governor he was going to reopen them.
