McDonnell extends advantage in Times-Dispatch poll

Republican Bob McDonnell appears poised to win the governorship and lead a GOP sweep Tuesday, ending nearly a decade of reverses for his party, according to The Richmond Times-Dispatch Poll.  McDonnell is favored by 53 percent, while Democrat R. Creigh Deeds is preferred by 41 percent—a widened lead from an early October survey for the newspaper.

Outside a strip mall close to a Bloom grocery store on Saturday Virginia’s Republicans spoke of the green shoots of recovery the party is seeing in a state it once took for granted.  The GOP rallied Saturday outside the party’s campaign office off John Tyler Memorial Highway just three days away from Tuesday’s elections.
