Virginia named most pro-business state in the U.S.

Virginia is the “most pro-business state” in America, according to a ranking released by Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States.
The Commonwealth has previously held the top spot three times in 2003, 2007 and 2009.
The ranking states were judged on 31 factors controlled by a state or commonwealth government, including taxes, human resources, education, right-to-work legislation, energy costs, infrastructure spending, workers compensation laws, economic incentive programs and state economic development efforts, according to the release.
Virginia is followed by Utah, Wyoming, South Carolina and North Carolina rounding off the top five pro-business states.
“Pollina has pointed out what we’ve known here in Virginia for a long time — that we are the best state in America for business,” said Gov. Bob McDonnell. ?McDonnell added that Pollina recognized the “pro-business atmosphere and first-class educational system we have built here in Virginia.”
A lot of hard work was put into making Virginia the top pro-business state, he said. That work included securing a robust package of economic development incentives within the state General Assembly to create jobs.
In the future, McDonnell said his administration will continue “to take an ‘all of the above’ approach to our energy future to work towards Virginia becoming the energy capitol of the east coast. This too will create the high-skill, high paying jobs that Virginians need.”
Within the past six months, the McDonnell administration has announced 131 projects in Virginia and created nearly 8,000 jobs with a capital investment of $1.3 billion, he said.
“By keeping taxes and regulation and litigation at a minimum, we are ensuring that major employers, like Northrop Grumman, will continue to invest in the Commonwealth, bringing with them jobs and opportunities for all our citizens,” he said.
