The government does not have a revenue problem, the government has a spending problem.
America’s taxcode, printed and stacked, is more than five feet tall. It’s why, for each dollar in tax American workers and companies pay, an estimated 25 cents is spent in time and fees figuring out how much to pay, and another 25 cents is lost to cheating. It’s why the richest nation on earth can’t balance its budget. One-third of the spending escapes judgment. Reduce the amount the government can confiscate from anyone to 15% (tax rate), reduce Congress’ spending ceiling to what it brings in and no more, and people will have plenty of money to pay for the things they need (minus a lot of government regulated inflation).
Also the Federal Reserve brings in billions of dollars in annual revenue. So why don’t they pay taxes?

Christopher, you’re absolutely right - but Bob’s got to look at this from a statewide point of view, not a federal point of view. The budgets of individual states operate differently than the budgets of the United States.

Christopher and Jacob,

Could not agree more… Problem is even more simple than that… Under the current and past Federal Policies, budgets are based on how much is spent, not on outcomes. 20 years in DOD serving in the Navy and I saw the same thing year after year… “Always overspend the budget otherwise your budget will be cut.” That is what we were told and had to do. Never, Never was anything based on the outcome, nor was any efficiency promoted because unless there was a budget crisis (Like today) there was no incentive for any agency, department or contractor to save money… No business other than Chrysler, GM or the banking industry could operate this way and get away with it.

Three words Lean Six Sigma…May not solve all Virginia’s woes, but would be a good place to start.

Bob’s comments about the budget are just like his campaign - they express respect as well as disagreement. That’s why I’m proud to have Bob as my new governor.

Good luck on working with the legislature, Bob. I hope that you can come up with a plan that will prevent VA from heading the direction of CA.

Daniel, those are exactly the same sentiments i’ve heard from career military friends. Obviously it’s not just military - it’s every bureaucracy, from local to federal. We need leadership that is not afraid to make some amputations.
