I hope it’s a fantastic response… I can’t stand watching Congresswoman Pelosi’s grin behind the President.

I thought for once the republicans would reach out and look at what the people really want. In 2008 I made 102k this year I found myself in line and spending 6 hours waiting to talk to someone about financial assistance. Let me add this before I continue I have a four year degree and served my country for 13 years. As I sat there listening to peoples stories hearing their frustrations it came to me that our system of government is so out of touch to what is going on. When I listened to the president tonight I think he gets it I think he wants us to work together to make a difference and get this country back on track. But I am so disappointed in the republican response because they continue to talk division and separation and I really think they are so out of touch with what people are going through in this country. Instead of talking politics and trying to point fingers can we start to work together to be the great country that I love.

Wonderful response to the president’s speech!!! You have made a great impression for us (by the way we live in Indiana even)and we are in hopes that one day you will be running for president!  We read your site about your accomplishments and we would be very honored to give you our vote should you ever pursue the presidential office.  Congrats on the great job at the speech and we look forward to more positive influences from you for the republican party!!!

In response to Stuart Burleson comment. I rather see Pelosi grinning than those fake grins from the african american lady and asian american gentleman standing behind the governor. They really look fake. Somehow their smiles wore out around the middle of the speach or maybe they got bored.

I have a questions for you. What point were you trying to make by stating highlighted issues? I have to say that it makes me angry and disappointed to see you up there posturing and not say what you party is doing specifically to help this country. It makes me sick!
I would also like to know if your younger kids have jobs. I am sure that with all of your resources they found something easy enough whether they are good at the job or not. You have no business up there saying that the governor’s are closer to the people. What are you struggling with? I have not had a job in two months. I am almost done with my Associate’s Degree in Administrative Health Care and will then find myself hounded my loan officers looking for money that I don’t have. How you are you specifically going to help with that issue because I am just one of many that are going through this same problem? Give me an answer if you want to talk on TV next time!!

Thank you for being a humble man,and thank you for quoting scripture. My interest is energy since my husband is a small natural Gas Company. He drills for natural gas in PA. and W.VA.  He has said many times how much gas is in VA. but is caught up in politics. We live in Williamsburg. The Company is B.G.Partners.  We are excited how you are addressing the reserves in VA. We’re excited also and looking forward to your term in office. We will continue to keep your family in our prayers.

As an Australian who has experienced health care in both countries, I am sick of hearing the statement “we have the best health care in the world” from American politicians.  This is a fallacious statement that has no absolutely no proof - it’s the tactic of a debater who has a shaky argument and is trying to cover that up by hyperbole, counting on the ignorance of the listener. If the argument the Republicans have against health care reform is so strong, why do they have to lie in order to convince the public?  Australia is a capitalist country, with private and public options, more freedom of choice, as good or better care, at 1/8 of the cost for private care as here, and a public system that uses only 8.4% of the GDP compared with 16% here. Best in the world?  Not likely!

Governor -

The President of the United States is fulfilling a constitutional responsibility reporting to Congress on the State of the Union… What were you doing this evening? Sowing seeds of divisiveness… Who racked up this deficit and created the environment that led to the meltdown - your party sir. The republican party.

Congratulations on a well delivered and prepared speech to counter the President’s speech. As a proud Canadian Citizen and most recently a very proud United States Citizen, I want to clarify one thing you said. It is Canada, not the United States, that has one of the best medical administrative systems in the world. In order to get the best medical system here in the U.S., allow Canada to consult to the United States. I have lived in both countries and the Canadian system is far better. Thank you, Bill

What I don’t understand, is that if both republicans and democrats want to reach the same goals then why can nothing get done in Washington?  No matter whose website you look on, a republic or a democrats you see that there are many common interest and many common goals.  I don’t understand why nothing is getting done on a federal level.  To say that our federal government is trying to tackle too much is ridiculous to me.  I don’t get to go to work and say, this is too much for me to do, we just can’t get all this done….why should you?  I don’t think that President Obama is trying to make the government so big and powerful that it is going to take over, take away free enterprise, or tie the average Americans hands behind their back.  I think he is genuinely trying to do what he thinks is right.  He is stepping out beyond his political party and saying, forget about good politics, lets represent the people.  I am asking you to do that.  Put your head down and face these issues one by one, get the job done.  That is why we elected you, because we believe in you, to not represent any political party, but to represent us.

It was humorous when the camera panned over the audience of middle aged white people… in stark contrast to the young black woman, young Asian guy, soldier, and pretty blond that were strategically placed behind the podium.

Seriously, where was the Eskimo?

Governor McDonnell,
you kept throwing out that “energy” word last night, but I did not hear you mention what you plan to do to keep AEP from leaving all you Virginia Residents homeless. Are you prepared to work for the people of Virginia or scratch the backs of greed corporations like AEP?
Sincerely,
V. Crouse

Governor McDonnell, I would like to thank you for your inspirational State of the Union Response.  I found myself standing up in my living room applauding!  Thank you for having the bravery to speak plainly and specifically about common-sense solutions to healthcare reform, unemployment, energy, and national security.  I found your frankness to be a huge relief and a stark contrast to the vague, albeit eloquent, rhetoric of our president.  Apparently I am not alone in my preference for “more matter, with less art,” as Scott Brown took a similar approach during his campaign and the good people of Massachusetts seem to have appreciated it as well.
Bravo!

What is driving up the cost of doing business in the U.S. at such an alarming rate? COG has gone up 100 fold and income remains the same. Simple, its our government! I am not against a electric rate increase if it is needed to pay employees or for the employee benefits, but I am against an increase if it is to meet the demands of our gov. or EPA type . We have elected officials that are afraid to stand up to these type of groups and now the consumer is paying the price. We are taxing our American businesses out of existance or better yet they are taxing the american people into poverty. Just look at the taxes each person pays to have a phone, electricity, or drive a car, not to mention your property taxes. Why is it they can force these regulations on us the consumer, yet the rest of the world continues as is and we continue to write these countries a check each year for Billions of dollars. It is time for the American people to stand up and yell “ENOUGH!!!” and if our politicians dont listen, send them packing.

Gov. we are asking for help with aep. we expect you to get a hold of this problem. we may not have any money left after aep takes it all , but we have good memories. I know you will want to help.  thank you

My concern is the the outrages charges AEP is charging it’s Virginia customers..We have no other choice when it comes to electric..AEP needs another company or other engery sources to compete against them..I am on unemployment and have been out of work coming on a year now, I’m not giving you a pitty story, but I do have a common life that quite a few of Southwest Virginian’s share….our house has all the engery appliances and light bulbs….and the more we cut back the higher our bill is….I think AEP should be punished the same as the banks that has helped to bring this economy down…something has to be done and needs to be done quick so AEP would stop making people choose between their electric bill or food on the table.
Sincerely,
R Hawkins

Welcome to office. I am writing to beg for your help with the utility rate increases. These companies make a large profit, even in bad years, seems I’m working hard to make their stock proflies look better, and many people will have to decide between paying the electric bill and their mortgage or car payment. It’s time for the energy price gouging scheme to stop.I’ve been a lifelong Republican, even after Gilmore, and I sincerly hope you do not leave me with the same nasty taste in my mouth. You seem to be a good man with a high level of intellegence, good values, so prove my instinct right and join Bill Carico’s fight.

Why isn’t someone doing something about these outragous AEP bills. The economy is terrible and they raise the rates. Where is the common sense here. Me and my husband work all day the heat is turned down til we get home and my power bill doubled. It seems like we are being punished for having power. These are hard times and people don’t need to spend their whole check on the electric bill.

I think he is genuinely trying to do what he thinks is right.  He is stepping out beyond his political party and saying, forget about good politics, lets represent the people.  I am asking you to do that.
