Jobs, Veterans, and a Queen Crowned
Last week, Governor McDonnell made two announcements on bringing new jobs to the Commonwealth, signed legislation to make Virginia the most veteran-friendly state in the America, and announced an initiative to expand affordable housing in the state and address the problem of homelessness. Not bad for a week’s work!
The Governor also assumed the role of very excited father as his daughter Rachel was crowned Queen of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester.

Governor McDonnell Makes Virginia Most Veteran-Friendly State
In conjunction with this weekend’s Crown Royal Heath Calhoun 400 at Richmond International Raceway, Governor Bob McDonnell wants Virginia to give back to veterans who have put their lives on the line. Thursday he signed legislation aimed at making Virginia the nation’s most veteran friendly state. He proclaimed May as “Crown Royal Heath Calhoun 400” month. The race was named after a Virginia veteran and paralympic athlete.
Governor McDonnell Announces Statewide Affordable Housing Policy Framework
Governor McDonnell wants to focus more attention on affordable housing in Virginia. The goal is to prevent homelessness and help low income families. Governor McDonnell says this will be the state’s first comprehensive housing policy. He’s still ironing out all of the details but he says Virginia needs to do more to help working families struggling to find an affordable place to live.
Rachel McDonnell to be Crowned Apple Blossom Queen
Apple Blossom Festival President, Elaine Aikens today announced that Queen Shenandoah LXXXIII Designate is Rachel Lynn McDonnell, daughter of Virginia Governor, Bob McDonnell.
