Time to really take the governorship off the runway!
congratulations, governor. I’m glad the legislature is already working well with you.
Governor: Your speech was excellent yet I am dismayed by the obvious omission of any comment about the big banks, unless I missed something. The Republican Party’s blind loyalty to the offending big corporations hurts The Party and its professed desire for new member support. Such old school cronyism, offends the intelligence of all people of integrity, and, continues the assault on legitimate business. It also damages the lifeblood of America, small businesses, that now will be overrun and unable to shoulder a multitude of new regulation only the big firms can afford. Many regional banks could have flourished if the “too big to fail” cronies had been left to their own “domestic terrorism” devices and been flushed away as all waste should be. A tough pill to swallow indeed but a better long term solution than the growing burden of continuing government intervention, which was initially sanctioned this time by both political parties. (And, in 1999 both political parties took apart Glass-Steagall which was put in place to protect us from the disaster we are experiencing. Allowing investment companies and commercial banks to merge is a sure recipe for too-big-to-fail firms.)
I am a small business owner. I believe passionately in the economic and national security need for a free market system. These offending companies, however, are anything but free market capitalists. They are an oligarchy and will continue to be so as long as we Republicans turn a blind eye to their blatant manipulation of those free markets. And, the myth that only a small number of elite have the know how to run these big financial firms is pabulum we have swallowed for too long. It is simply cover to use corporate coffers as personal bank accts - be damned the shareholders, the employees & the larger economy.
The Republican Party should be a party of accountability. Instead it is by default nothing new. It allows the companies, execs and “their” politicians who created this disaster to go their merry way with ill gotten gains. They will do the same thing again under the guise of free enterprise. Both parties put no teeth into any enforcement but offer only a public scolding. We as conservatives deserve more courage from our party leaders.
